2021 League of Legends World Championship Day 9 Recap

Day 9 of the 2021 League of Legends World Championship was Group B’s turn to play their second round robin. With Edward Gaming and T1 starting the day in first and second place respectively, 100 Thieves looked to play spoiler and take one of those places to join Cloud9 in the quarterfinals.

Faker Moves On
Despite not making it to the 2020 League of Legends World Championship, Faker and T1 have made it out of the Group Stage. After beating Edward Gaming, a team that started the day undefeated, 100 Thieves and DetonatioN FocusMe, they moved into the quarterfinals, along with Edward Gaming from Group B. T1 was also able to prevent Edward Gaming from finishing the Group Stage undefeated, and secured first in the group after Edward Gaming lost to 100 Thieves.

North America Heading Home
Coming into day 8 of the 2021 League of Legends World Championship, 100 Thieves only had one win under their belt, and sat in third place. The LCS champions had goals to join Cloud9 in the quarterfinals, but it was not meant to be. Their first game was against T1, and it was not close, with T1 ending the game with a eight thousand gold difference and finishing with eight kills compared to the three for 100 Thieves. 100 Thieves did end strong though, with their dismantling of Edward Gaming. If 100 Thieves had played like they did in their final game, they most likely would have joined Cloud9, and made it the only time that two teams from North America made it to the quarterfinals.
Day 10 of the 2021 League of Legends World Championship continues tomorrow at 4 AM PST/7 AM EST/ 12 PM BST, with Group C playing their second round robin. It all starts with Hanwha Life Esports taking on PSG Talon. All the action can be watched at LoLEsports.com
