While fans may not have gotten an official sequel, Dan Salvato certainly surprised the fanbase with Doki Doki Literature Club Plus!, coming to PC and consoles on June 30th. That’s right, the hit dating sim turned psychological horror finally arrives on consoles this summer, though do note it can be played free on Steam.

This is no mere port, however. Plus will feature an extended soundtrack, updated visuals, over 100 new images of the cast, and side stories along with the original game. The price tag of $15 may seem a bit hefty for what’s basically a small MP3 player and image gallery, but I think the side stories should make the game more than worth the price.

A Twitter thread by Dan Salvato, the man behind the first game, revealed there will be six side stories, one for each pair of girls which is outside the universe and just exists to flesh out the characters from the main game. To me and likely many other fans, this is what warrants the price tag, as the cast is the best element of the game. In my opinion, of course.

A Physical Deluxe edition will also be launching later this summer including all the goodies shown above for only $30. I’m sure to grab this one, as the poem, standees, and amazing box art is well worth the money for me. I’m also a fan of the original game, so may as well support the creator while I’m at it.

While we may have been wanting an official continuation of the Doki Doki universe in some capacity, Doki Doki Literature Club Plus is a welcome surprise that fans will be sure to eat up. If you never played the original, I’d highly suggest doing so as it is free.
