Maybe you bought a game you were severely disappointing in or bought the wrong edition of the game on accident on Xbox? Don’t worry, Microsoft forgives you and will give you a refund if you so desire under certain circumstances of course. Below, we’ll go into detail on what you’ll need to do to get this done and refund an Xbox game.

Refund on Xbox One

While you can’t refund a game on your Xbox console itself with Microsoft, you may be able to find out who to contact from the information section of the game you’re trying to return.

Keep in mind, there is no guarantee of a return at all. Games are not refundable without direct contact with Microsoft or the game’s developer or publisher.

Let’s say you bought Red Dead Redemption 2 on your Xbox One and thought you bought the deluxe edition of the game only to see that RDR2 Deluxe Edition went on sale and you don’t own it. You may be able to contact Rockstar themselves if that particular reason is enough for them to return your money to you.

This method is less likely to succeed but if your feedback included with your possible return is more something for the developer, than feel free to reach out to them regardless.

However, this next option, refunding on Microsoft.com is your absolute best bet.

Refund on Microsoft Website

Up until recently, Microsoft had a no return policy. Assuming to have changed their minds due to high volume of requests for returns and increase of digital sales and digital exclusives in general.

Either way, whatever caused them to change their policy is making it easier on gamers to be sure they’re getting exactly what they’re paying for, and a refund if not.

Since making this change, Microsoft is more than likely to be accepting most returns asked of them with some exceptions of course.

Microsoft focuses more on accepting returns on digital purchases with less than 2 hours of playtime, which is understandable but can also be surpassed without notice unfortunately. However, they are likely to be lenient in this matter as long as it hasn’t been an entirely beaten campaign or well beyond the 2 hour mark.

That being said, Microsoft does not accept every refund request but in order to attempt to get a refund from the Xbox manufacturer, you’re going to need to fill out a form.

This form however, can only be accessed via your billing history on your Microsoft account. Once you have found “Subscriptions & Billing” on your account, you should be able to find the order number for the specific item. This order number is what you’re going to need in order to get your refund.

Alternatively, if you are having trouble finding this then you can go to Xbox.com/refund and file a refund from there.

For all of these methods, it should be noted the item must have been purchased within 2 weeks of refund request as well as less than 2 hours playtime.

It may take up to 48 hours to get a response from Microsoft for a refund request.

Hopefully this cleared any confusion you may have had on to refund an Xbox game and you can now enjoy something else with you refunded purchase.
