Among Us is an online multiplayer game blew up last year during the coronavirus-induced lockdown. The game quickly became the go-to choice for many online gamers and their friends and family.
It was initially released for just mobile-first then PC users via Steam. In late 2020, the game became available on Nintendo Switch and Xbox Game Pass for PC.
Is Among Us Free On Console?
It is important to note that Among Us is not yet available on certain consoles. However, the game is not free as it goes for $5 on Nintendo switch.
Among Us unavailable on certain Consoles
As of now, there is no PlayStation or Xbox version of the game. InnerSloth programmer, Forest Willard explained that bringing the game to these consoles is not as easy as it seems. In a Twitch chat about the possibility, Williard confirmed that it was being considered.
However, it was confirmed in December 2020 that the game would be coming to Xbox in 2021. Will Tuttle, Xbox Wire Editor in Chief, said:
We’ve updated the title of the post to reflect the availability of Among Us on Xbox Game Pass for PC, and noting its upcoming availability in 2021 for Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, and Xbox Game Pass for Console.
Not much is known about its exact release dates on the Xbox for now or whether there are plans for the PlayStation release. However, seeing as the Nintendo Switch version of the game is not free, Among Us on these consoles would most likely not also be free. The game goes for $5 on Nintendo Switch and the price will likely remain the same when released on these consoles.
