What is the BLUE BOX Game Studios Conspiracy?

Over the past week, BLUE BOX Game Studios and its upcoming game Abandoned have been in the spotlight because of some potential connections to legendary game director Hideo Kojima, and Silent Hill. The internet is like a ravenous beast whenever a huge potential project is being teased at. In this case, many clues have pointed to BLUE BOX Game Studios not being who they say they are and have suggested a connection with the famed director.

Why Hideo Kojima and Silent Hill you ask? It’s simple, as you only have to look back at the release of a little-known game called P.T.

Hallways of memories

In August 2014, a strange playable demo was released on the Playstation Network by an unknown studio called 7780s Studio. It was called P.T and scared the fuck out of everyone that played it, as it involved an infinite hallway, obscure puzzles, and a creepy ghost lady named Lisa.

Upon completion of the demo, it was revealed that P.T was a “playable teaser” for a new Silent Hill game that would be headed by Hideo Kojima. Already, upon release of the demo, people were making guesses that 7780s Studio wasn’t who they said they were, as the quality of the graphics suggested that there was more backing to this game than initially thought.

The reveal of the company as being fake and created by Kojima as a front for his new project reminded people of his similar method of revealing Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain. Much like P.T, MGSV was initially shown as a game simply called The Phantom Pain, and it was being made by “Moby Dick Studio,” another fake company made up by Kojima.

Because of these previous promos that Kojima has done for his other games, people immediately began speculating about the legitimacy of BLUE BOX Game Studios as an actual studio. Everything from the game director’s name translating to sharing initials with Kojima, to the logo of the company looking very similar to Playstation’s own squarish logo, the internet has scoured every bit of information to try and piece together whether or not we’re getting a new Kojima project.

The Twitter page of BLUE BOX Game Studios itself is filled with strange statements and is definitely worth taking a look into if you’re interested. You can feel the frustration of both Silent Hill fans and Hideo Kojima fans mount with every tweet that the mysterious company throws onto its page.

Does this all mean that we’re getting a new Silent Hill? It’s really hard to say, as we’ve been burned by Silent Hill announcements before. The aforementioned P.T was eventually taken off of the Playstation Store and the Silent Hill project canceled by a spiteful Konami, and suffice it to say, no one was happy at this turn of events.

However, anyone who looks into this strange conspiracy should take all of these rumblings with a grain of salt, as it’s too easy to get your hopes up for something that might not be happening. We might have more answers this Father’s Day, where BLUE BOX Game Studios said more of their game, Abandoned, was going to be shown.
