If you want to jump into Verdansk, you might be wondering… Do you need Xbox Live to play Warzone?
This is a valid question, it is a free-to-play title after all. However, is it really free to play?
Below, we have everything you need to know about what you need if you want to play Warzone on your Xbox and whether you need an active Xbox Live subscription.
Do You Need Xbox Live?
As it stands, you do need Xbox Live to play Warzone.
We know, we know. This isn’t what you wanted to hear but it is changing.
After controversially upping the price of Xbox Live, Microsoft came under enough fire to reverse this and pledged to help make free-to-play titles like Warzone truly free to play.
That being said, it will still be a little while before this is a reality, it seems…
So, for now, you will need to have an active Xbox Live subscription to play Warzone. Alternatively, a subscription to Game Pass Ultimate will also allow you to play Warzone.
You Also Need Microsoft Account
This might seem obvious but it’s important nonetheless. In order to play Warzone online you’re going to need your own Microsoft Account on your Xbox.

This doesn’t just give you a Gamertag, though. It allows you to add Warzone to your Library and download it to your console as well as saving your progress.
Thankfully, an Xbox should prompt you to add/create a Microsoft Account when you start it up.
However, if you need to make a new Microsoft Account for your Xbox, you can do so here.
