Destiny 2: Telesto is disabled once again in Crucible

Destiny 2 has tons of powerful weapons for players to use and has had dozens of famous and infamous weapons filter in and out of the game. Destiny in its heyday had Gjallarhorn and Destiny 2 has had Anarchy and a bunch of busted pinnacle weapons that are useless now. However, only the Destiny 2 iteration of the exotic fusion rifle called Telesto has been the only weapon to be put in the time-out corner for breaking the game in some way.

Several times has this simple little fusion rifle rocked the world of Destiny 2 in some form. Its exotic perk has been abused in a myriad of ways, as it has been used to decimate raid bosses in a cheesy manner and absolutely roll people in Crucible. This time, we once again have a seasonal mod do something that makes Telesto the besto.

Go into the time out corner, now!

So, today at 1:48 PM, Bungie announced that Telesto would be disabled once again due to its disgusting capabilities when paired with the seasonal mod Thermoclastic Blooming. As demonstrated by YouTuber Skarrow, Telesto’s current capabilities are far too strong when paired with a specific seasonal mod. Thermoclastic Blooming makes it so that defeating an enemy with a Solar or Stasis melee ability creates an orb of power.

Telesto’s exotic ability sticks small projectiles on any surface, which detonate after a period of time; however, these projectiles are counted by the game as combatants and as such, they can be destroyed. If you have the mod equipped and destroy several Telesto projectiles with one of the aforementioned melee abilities, you can get tons of orbs right away. For PvE content, that’s really nice, but in Crucible, it’s an absolute nightmare to be on the receiving end of.

Imagine if all of a sudden the opposing side just gets full supers from their Telestos and just go to town on your team. Absolutely insane.

After seeing Telesto break something again in Destiny 2, I’m sure Bungie will just have the gun canonically be melted down into a new helmet for Saint-14 to wear. Until that happens, we can just expect Telesto to continually break something in the game every time a new season starts up; If it’s not making people cry in Crucible, it’s putting bosses in headlocks and giving them noogies (no one does this anymore).

For a gun that is otherwise fairly ho-hum, it seems to cause many problems and continually cement its meme status as the one thing that breaks Destiny 2. Forget expansion launches and new seasons arriving, the true experience of the game is just waiting to see when Telesto will strike once again.
