FFXIV Endwalker: How to prepare

Final Fantasy XIV Endwalker

While the release of Endwalker was delayed somewhat due to COVID-19, this does come with a few select benefits. For one, we have extra time to get ready for the expansion, and the unprecedented influx of players both from World of Warcraft and other games alike has the biggest player base the game has ever had awaiting FFXIV: Endwalker. Whether a new or seasoned adventurer, here are some ways to prepare for the expansion launch on November 23rd!

Before even going over the main points, keep in mind that by pre-ordering FFXIV: Endwalker, you get Early Access privilege, letting you log in to the expansion four days ahead of the official release. It also gives a nice earring which boosts EXP gain to Level 80. If you’re seriously excited, be ready by November 19th!

1. Finish the Main Scenario Quests

While this may seem like something of a no-brainer, plenty of folks come to FFXIV for a mostly single-player experience and are incentivized to take breaks whenever the game doesn’t interest them. As such, they miss MSQ progression after expansion launches. A number of my own friends marathoned Shadowbringers’ main story, only to drop the game for a while and realize they need to catch up on 50+ quests.

For new players or those who haven’t played since before Shadowbringers, a long gauntlet of main story progression awaits. The free trial allows progress through the end of the Heavensward expansion with a few general restrictions. As of now, a player needs to complete A Realm Reborn, Heavensward, Stormblood, and Shadowbringers’ main stories to access Endwalker.

While some, especially in the beginning, maybe slow, many fans adore the stories of Heavensward and Shadowbringers. Even later parts of ARR tend to be pretty good. Take in the story as it guides you all over Eorzea, as it is one of the game’s claims to fame.

2. Level Up Alt Jobs

Another key feature of FFXIV is the ability to level up multiple jobs. When you’re fully caught up in the main story, or merely over-leveled, use the daily roulettes to level up alternate jobs. The video below shows off the general flow of each job to act as a frame of reference on what to level next.

There are plenty of daily and weekly options that make leveling jobs rather quick, especially for tanks and healers. Even with DPS, though, thorough roulette usage can get a job about a level and a half a day after 50. Not too shabby for about an hour and a half tops per day.

As someone who thought they were entirely content with one job for all of my time in FFXIV, do experiment. After playing Dragoon exclusively for about two years, I now have 13 classes at level cap and have mained classes I never thought I’d even touch in high-end content.

3. Have Fun!

Make sure that, above all else, you’re playing to have fun! If roulettes are a drag or you find yourself forcing yourself to do main story content, just take a break. No rush, either. Tons of players are still coming in every day, and old content is more active than ever before.

My point is if you’re part of the crowd that riding the wave of new players, enjoy the game at your own pace, enjoying the other new players, doing Gold Saucer stuff, playing with friends, etc.

While FFXIV: Endwalker may be about a month and a half off, there still is plenty of time to get another job or two to the level cap, catch up on the main story, or even start your adventure with tons of other new fans.
