FFXIV Machinist: Endwalker Job Changes

In the recently live streamed Letter from the Producer LIVE Part 66, numerous details were revealed about the upcoming expansion to the hit MMO Final Fantasy XIV, Endwalker. The Live Letter primarily focused on the changes and adjustments being made to all of the jobs currently in the game and the two new classes. While I’m not a master at every class in the game, I have a baseline knowledge of every class, enough to comment on the most apparent changes. Here’s everything we know about the new FFXIV Machinist!

NOTE: As the Media Tour embargo has lifted, extra info has come out about all jobs. While most of the information is still fairly accurate, I’ll be making a piece per “role” in the game to make note of especially interesting things we couldn’t glean from the Job Actions trailer.

As a disclaimer, all content in the video is technically subject to change, and Naoki Yoshida did mention that not every new trait or action has been shown in the Job Actions trailer. Additionally, my comments are based on a mixture of the content shown and discussed and speculation based on previous job knowledge. Without further ado, let’s get started! Here’s the Job Action Trailer for reference.

As one of the simpler Jobs in FFXIV, Machinist looks to have changed the least compared to its DPS contemporaries. Fans seemed to be happy with how the class was overhauled into Shadowbringers, so it looks that not much has been done except some neat new attacks. From what I can gather, there are three new ones.

While not in the video above, a new action called Chain Saw is being added, and I can only assume such a brutal weapon would be a high potency action. In a similar vein of, “wow, these weapons are pretty damn dangerous,” a shotgun was shown to have been added, and the action can be Reassembled. Whether it shares a cooldown with Air Anchor or has its own independent cooldown defines whether the action will be only for AoE pulls or added to the single target rotation.

The final addition looks to be a final hit at the end of the Automaton Queen’s cooldown. Once again, this is probably a high potency move to finish off the phase and may imply that they’re focusing hard on Machinist’s role as a selfish DPS. Physical ranged DPS have been somewhat sad in the damage department throughout Shadowbringers, but this does imply Machinist may take its title as the highest DPS of the three.

While not much has changed overall, at least from what’s been told to fans, Machinist looks to keep its identity as a multi-machine-wielding high damaging DPS. Here’s hoping this time it actually… does high damage.
