Genshin Impact 2.2: Polar Star, Wavebreaker’s Fin and other new weapons

genshin polar star featured

During the 2.2 Special Program Livestream, we had our first glance at the arriving weapons. The new arsenal available on Genshin Impact includes names like the Polar Star bow, the Wavebreaker’s Fin polearm and other powerful weapons.

They’ll all be made available through the next Weapon Banners. Since it usually includes a strong weapon to complement the main Character Banner, we should be seeing the Polar Star as the first starring 5-star weapon, and some of its fellow 4-star newcomers may be accompanying it.

As a side note, it’s very possible that we see the comeback of the Staff of Homa, Hu Tao’s signature weapon and one of the strongest polearms in the game, during the second Weapon Banner, which may include the new 4-stars that didn’t appear in the first.

Without further explanations, to the weapons we go!

Base Attack: 46

Secondary stat: Critical Rate

Passive: Daylight’s Augury

Description: Elemental Skill and Elemental Burst DMG increased by 12%. After Normal Attacks, Charged Attacks, Elemental Skills, and Elemental Burst hits an opponent, 1 stack of Byakuya Kyousei will be gained for 12s. When 1/2/3/4 stacks of Byakuya Kyousei are present, ATK is increased by 10/20/30/48%. The stack of Byakuya Kyousei created by the Normal Attack, Charged Attack, Elemental Skill or Elemental Burst will be counted independently of the others.

The signature weapon designed for…Childe.

When Polar Star was first leaked (without even a proper name), the Genshin community immediately believed it was made for Ganyu, since its passive works wonderfully with her Burst and is also visually fitting with her design.

But in truth, the bow’s passive is good for virtually every offensive bow user in the game, and even without its passive, it has nice base stats and free Critical Rate. Childe will be able to apply its full passive very quickly, and the ATK bonus is huge. Definitely a great weapon for him, Ganyu and every other bow user to come.

Mouun’s Moon

Base Attack: 44

Secondary stat: Atk

Passive: Watatsumi Wavewalker

Description: For every point of the entire party’s combinated maximum Energy, the Elemental Burst DMG of the character equipping this weapon increases by 0.12%. A maximum of 40% increased Elemental Burst DMG can be achieved this way.

The passive is the same for all of the weapons from this series, so you only need to read it once.

Basically, it works similar to Raiden’s ult. To achieve its maximum possible damage, you need a team with high Burst energy requirements.

Since most of the characters released nowadays require 80 energy to unleash their Bursts, it’s not actually a big problem… for the other weapons, since Bow users require less energy.

This is a great bow to use on characters for a Raiden team (Sara is the first to come to mind), but is universally good whenever you just need a character to Burst and quickswap it. Childe, Venti and Aloy are all good users for it (even without being able to maximize its passive).

Wavebreaker’s Fin

Base Attack: 45

Secondary stat: Atk

Passive: Watatsumi Wavewalker

Description: For every point of the entire party’s combinated maximum Energy, the Elemental Burst DMG of the character equipping this weapon increases by 0.12%. A maximum of 40% increased Elemental Burst DMG can be achieved this way.

Polearm users are a whole different story. Xiangling, Thoma and Raiden, for example, all require 80 energy (Raiden actually needs 90), and are all viable users for this weapon.

The only problem is that the polearm acquired for free through fishing, “The Catch”, has a similar effect without any team requirement, and can be refined to 5 for free. But nothing stops you from using both spears in different characters, since they are both great.

Akuoumaru

Base Attack: 42

Secondary stat: Atk

Passive: Watatsumi Wavewalker

Description: For every point of the entire party’s combinated maximum Energy, the Elemental Burst DMG of the character equipping this weapon increases by 0.12%. A maximum of 40% increased Elemental Burst DMG can be achieved this way.

The final Watatsumi themed weapon is a claymore, and its best user is probably Beidou. Her Burst is one of the strongest off-field tools in the game, so getting it boosted for around 40% is huge.

Even having lower energy costs, Chongyun and Xinyan (if you’re one of the dozens of people who uses her) can also make good use of it, since they usually rely on their Bursts to do their job.

Currently, it’s believed that these weapons will be available in the next Genshin Weapon Banners, though aside from Polar Star, they may be obtained through a different method (like crafting). Don’t get your hopes up, however, as they’ll probably just be included in the banners.

Which weapon are you looking forward to the most? This new batch for Genshin Impact is headlined by the Polar Star, but perhaps Mouuns Moon, Akuoumaru or Wavebreakers fin is exactly what your team needs.
