MiHoYo announced yesterday, right after the arrival of the 2.4 update, that players will now be able to obtain alternate outfits in Genshin Impact for some characters. These outfits are not outright skins, but more like slightly changed clothes for the vision users.

The first showcased characters were Jean, Amber, Rosaria, and Mona, and they seem to be chosen on purpose since the last two girls are frequently criticized for being extremely sexualized in the game. Those outfits, while not being their new base models, seem to be an answer to those critics.

The news was announced through miHoYo’s social media.

While the complete announcement doesn’t reveal anything new, it looks like Genshin alternate outfits will be just like the regular skins we have in the game (like Jean’s summer outfit or Keqing’s dress), but on a very smaller scale.

Here’s the comparison between the base models and the new outfits:

The main theme between them is to add more details to the (already unnecessarily detailed) outfits of the characters, while also making their clothes less appealing. Jean’s outfit is more on the ceremonial side now, and Amber got new gloves and a slightly different corset.

Rosaria now has her arms covered, her chest is not as prominent as before and we can barely see her fishnet tights. Mona received the most changes, as her arms are now covered and her outfit is now divided between a small dress and over-knee socks. Some colors are also different from the default skin.

We may expect these new outfits to arrive in the next update, as some beta archives suggest that they’ll soon be around. They might be only obtainable through Genesis Crystal, just like the current skins.

Genshin Impact is currently on its 2.4 version, “Fleeting Colors in Flight”, which marks the return of the Lantern Rites event, along with some new and returning characters, a whole new area for exploration, new skins, enemies and many more.

You can play the game for free on mobile devices including Android, iOS, Playstation 4, Playstation 5, and Pc on both miHoYo’s official launcher and Epic Games Store. A Nintendo Switch version is stated to be in development.
