Players are still unsatisfied with the current anniversary rewards miHoYo decided to give us. And that’s not unexpected, since the company’s been giving us the silent treatment for a few weeks. As a response, players started to negatively review-bomb Genshin Impact on the Google Play Store.

As this article is written, the game is currently with a 2.1 score on the Google Play Store. The iOS reviews are still very positive at the moment, but we can be sure that Apple players are not happy either, and it’s also more difficult to change previous reviews on the App Store.

Today is the first Genshin Impact anniversary, and miHoYo has announced its rewards since the previous Special Program Livestream. The problem is that aside from the 10 Intertwined Fates, there was no REAL special reward for this unique event.

As a result, the whole community has been left highly unsatisfied, and demanded better rewards for weeks. When all the anniversary events were revealed, and most of them were focused on content creation or randomly given to participants, the community went wild.

To escalate even further, the newest 5-star character, Sangonomiya Kokomi, didn’t quite live up to peoples’ expectations of what a 5-star should be. As a result, we have a disastrous anniversary in which players are not even close to being happy enough to celebrate.

As for the current state of the game, the Moonchase Festival event dropped yesterday, and it’s basically a copy-paste version of the Lantern Rite event, celebrated back in the 1.3 version.

While the event itself (including activities, interactions and rewards) is a big improvement from last time (which was already great), it’s a shame that there was no “exclusive” product made for the anniversary.

Bombing their way into their heads

Even after all the controversy, miHoYo decided to pretend nothing was happening. So what was the players’ response? To review-bomb Genshin in its mobile platforms as a way to make their voices heard.

Some may call it a childish move, since the game’s already free. But that’s not an excuse to completely ignore their community. Genshin Impact broke its own sales records with Raiden Shogun’s banner, and that alone would be enough to “cover from the loss” miHoYo would receive by distributing better rewards.

To make things even worse, the negative reviews are seemingly being deleted, and people are accusing miHoYo of censoring their voices. Things are not looking very good for the chinese company.

The irony is that miHoYo has only itself to blame for this treatment, and it’s not because of not distributing better rewards, but because in the Zhongli situation, when the Geo Archon was buffed following negative reactions from the community, it showed that they’ll listen if they are pressured to the corner.

We don’t know if miHoYo will even try to acknowledge the situation, but it may be too late. While Genshin’s score may return to normal after a few weeks following the review bomb, the negative impact left on the community may be permanent, no matter what kind of apology gift they decide to throw at us.
