All You Need to Know About Fantasian, Apple’s New Exclusive JRPG

This week, developer Mistwalker Corporation revealed the first trailers and much more about its upcoming Apple-exclusive Diorama Adventure RPG Fantasian. 

Here is everything you need to know about the new title.

First of all, if you haven’t already, check the game’s story trailer, and its official synopsis below:

”The tale begins in a realm governed by machines. Within this multi-dimensional universe, the balance of “Chaos and Order” becomes a key factor in the struggle for these realms and the machinations of the gods who wish to control them. Players will assume the role of protagonist, Leo, who awakens from a massive explosion only to find himself lost in a strange land with only one memory left to him. As players set out on a journey to reclaim Leo’s memories, they will unravel the mysteries of the bizarre mechanical infection slowly engulfing all that is known to mankind. The captivating story is written by Sakaguchi and is complimented by a sweeping soundtrack by celebrated Final Fantasy composer, Nobuo Uematsu.”

As said above, Hironobu Sakaguchi is the one responsible for writing the game’s story.

Sakaguchi is a well-known name among JRPG fans, famous for being the director of some of Square Enix biggest titles, such as Final Fantasy II, III, IV, and for being one of the many writers and directors behind Final Fantasy V, VI, VII, and VIII.

A New Approach for Combat and Storytelling

The game promises a new approach to combat, with the addition of a new mechanic, known as “Dimension Battle”.

On it, players can maximize exploration by sending enemies they encounter to a different dimension, where they can be faced all at once.

Not only that, but a new ”novel” approach to storytelling will also be present, check out below the new feature’s official description:

”To tell an epic story, a ‘novel’ approach was used in the form of a “Memory” system where players encounter and collect various memories, journal entries, and notes presented as miniature in-game novels to flesh out the story, realms, and characters of Fantasian. These bite-sized novels have unique artwork, music, and sound effects to offer players a truly immersive experience.”

A Hand Crafted Environment

The title will feature more than 150 handcrafted dioramas, made by some of the best professionals in the industry, know for their work in titles such as Godzilla, Attack on Titan, and Ultraman.

Fantasian promises a new take on some of the genres best, featuring high-quality involvements and distinctive and beautiful designs. The title will be released in 2021, exclusively for Mac, iPhone, iPad, and Apple TV, via Apple Arcade.
