New Pokemon Snap was a game that not many saw coming but one that many fans were excited to see finally announced.

Those who played the original N64 version likely have fond memories of spending hours trying to get the best pictures of their favorite gen 1 Pokemon and those who have never played it before now get to have the opportunity to try a unique and engaging Pokemon experience.

With the announcement of this new title, we’re excited to see what sort of new features will be added and here we’ll be speculating on what sort of new things we’d love to see in New Pokemon Snap.

Shiny Pokemon

Shiny Pokemon have been a rare novelty for players since they were introduced in the second generation Pokemon games.

Since Pokemon snap requires both a sharp eye and sharper shutter-fingers, the addition of randomly spawning shiny Pokemon would add a new level of excitement to the rail-shooter style levels.

Drone Camera

In a game about taking photos, what better way to take photos than from any possible angle?

A limited use item that would allow your camera to briefly move independently a short distance for dynamic shots would allow players to take some really creative shots as they explore.

Selfie Mode

Who doesn’t love a selfie? Nothing more than a fun way to engage with the environment around you, and as we learned from Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, players will have fun with it.

Maybe some Pokemon would even want to be included, coming toward you or making an inquisitive face at the camera.

Plus, this allows the player to better engage with the player character since they would otherwise likely only see them during cutscenes.

Rotating Pokemon

Pokemon Snap has always had a decent level of replayability since players had to replay certain stages with newly acquired items in order to trigger events in the original N64 game.

An interesting way to spice up those runs while also adding a level of tension would be for some pokemon to randomly appear.

Maybe even with some environmental influences that change a Pokemon’s behavior or whether or not they will appear on your route. Having rotating Pokemon would also allow for a wider variety of Pokemon to appear on the few routes that the players can take.

Mythical Pokemon

A potentially contentious addition, but still one worth exploring, would be a unique mythical Pokemon that would only be obtainable via some special means through Pokemon Snap, either adding the Pokemon to Pokemon Home or providing access to an item in the mainline game that allows the player to catch it.

This would be a similar distribution method to the mythical Pokemon Manaphy, which required completing a special mission in the spin-off game Pokemon Ranger to gain access to the Manaphy Egg.

Those were 5 new things we’d love to see in New Pokemon Snap, which is releasing later this year on April 30, 2021!
