How to Uninstall Mods like Reshade in The Sims 4

As good as The Sims 4 is, there’s always a way to make it better. Installing mods is something Sims players do a lot nowadays and there are a lot of mods out there worth looking at. If you want to uninstall mods from The Sims 4, though, and revert back to the game as God (or in this case, EA) intended, then you’re in for a bit of a task.

To put it simply, it just isn’t as easy. Thankfully, we’ve got a guide here to help you out.

How to uninstall mods on The Sims 4

We’re going to use Reshade (which you can download here) as an example for this one, but the process can be followed with pretty much any of the mods you decide you want to uninstall in The Sims 4.

If you want to delete Reshade, then you need to head to the game’s directory folder and find the right files. All you need to do is CTRL+SHIFT+ESC and open the Task Manager. From here, you can find The Sims 4’s .exe file when it’s running and select “Open File Location”. If not, just searching Sims in your File Explorer should find the right stuff eventually.

From here, you’ll need to delete everything in the “Reshade-shaders” folder. If you’re looking for any other mod you’ve installed… Then you just need to follow the same steps and delete the modded file!

We know it sounds simple, but as long as you can find the same files that you’ve installed you can get rid of them. If you can’t delete them, though, you can always remove them from the folder. A lot of people have a backup, of sorts, that they store mods in they’re not using. As long as it has been removed from The Sims 4’s main folder, then it’s not going to be active.

If you download this Tray Importer for The Sims 4, you should be able to find any files you have added even easier than by looking. We know it can get a bit confusing when you have quite a few installed.

You can also do this yourself in-game, using the Tray Importer. All you need to do is follow these steps:

  • Open an Empty Lot in-game and fill with all the custom content you want to remove;
    • You can filter Custom Content while in Build Mode with the menu in the bottom right;
  • Save this Empty Lot to your Library using the “Save To My Library” button;
  • Exit The Sims 4 and open the Tray Importer from above;
  • Select your Custom Content Lot from the list of Library Items and select the “CC” button at the top;
    • Your most recently saved Lot should appear at the top of the list;
  • Select each item that appears in the list of “Mods – Installed” and use “Show Containing Folder” to find them;
  • Delete each file. It’s that easy.
