Is Valheim First Person?

It feels like I’m writing an article about the hit new early access release: Valheim, once every few days and somehow the game only gets bigger and bigger. Just earlier today another two or three friends came into a call with me just to talk about the game and how we should all play it with em. Five million sales is on the horizon at this point… Regardless, I’ve seen some people wondering before buying the game, “Is Valheim First Person?”

Another news piece about Valheim another answer that just cant be straightforward. The short answer is no, at least not currently. For all we know, Iron Gate could implement a first person toggle at some point before or after the full release of the game. Generally at least an option to toggle between third and first person modes is available in some capacity with enough demand, so getting it in the future is a possibility.

However, to those more tech savvy, one can in fact play Valheim in first person mode. Praise be to the modding community, as it seems that a mostly complete first person mod already released to the public. While there isn’t support for modding Valheim through Steam yet, nor do we know if it will really ever be so, people have still found a way to both overhaul the crafting system as well as change the camera perspective.

It takes a few extra hoops to mod Valheim due to it not being officially supported, and its probably not the type of game I’d be playing in first person just due to the type of fella I am, but from screenshots and videos people have uploaded, I have to admit the first person mod does wonders for the game’s already neat visuals considering its early access…ness.

If first person is your preferred method of playing games, especially open world, I’d recommend looking up some of the footage released of the mod in action, and perhaps try it out for yourself if it looks especially appealing. As a fair warning though, the mod does have a few bugs that are still left to be ironed out, if they even can be. From what I’ve seen though, very very little of it seems to be gamebreaking, so go wild, Valheim fans.

From the looks of the little montage posted above, it even looks better than I anticipated, and certainly makes the game look more immersive. Though… shields look a smidge impractical overall in this mod, the rest looks stunning all things considered.

As always, I’d be regretful not to mention just how insanely quickly Valheim is popping off. Only three days ago the official Iron Gate Twitter announced it had made four million sales, only 22 days after its early access release. This is only five days after its three million sales benchmark… When I said five million was on the horizon, I meant it.
