Valheim has been smashing many major milestones since its release. Most recently it reached over 500,000 concurrent players, but is the early access title free-to-play?

Valheim is developed by Iron Gate AB and published by Coffee Stain Publishing (publishers of Goat Simulator, Sanctum, Sanctum 2, and Deep Rock Galactic).

It was announced that Valheim has raked in a massive amount of concurrent users on Steam, which, according to steamdb broke 500,000 recently. For an Early Access game that is quite the feat to achieve so early on in the game’s life cycle.

What is even more impressive is that the game isn’t free to play. Most of the games on Steam that hit those numbers, such as CS:GO and Dota 2, are free to play titles.

How Much Does Valheim Cost?

So if Valheim isn’t free-to-play, how much does it cost exactly? The prices for early access to Valheim are $19.99 (US), $22.79 (CA), $28.95 (AU), €16,79 (EU), £19.99 (GB), ?529 (IN), ¥2050 (JP).

While these prices are for early access to the game, there is no confirmation as to whether they will remain the same upon official release.

Game pricing usually depends on the design philosophy adopted by the developers and the game’s sales performance during the early access.

Some games were marked up upon release (DayZ, Kerbal Space Program) while some become cheaper or even free-to-play (H1Z1). It remains to be seen which direction Valheim will take.

The recent success of Supergiant Games’ latest game Hades proved that early access can benefit a game greatly before launch.

Hades saw a price hike from $19.99 US to $24.99 US upon full launch. It is very likely that Valheim might follow suit and keep the price stoic, or even mark it up a little bit upon release.

There is no set release date for Valheim’s full launch yet, so it is safe to assume that the price for the game will not be changing for a while (barring sales).
