Valheim: How to Summon and Defeat the Game’s Third Boss

Valheim is full of mystic and mythological creatures which players can go up against and the third boss is one of the deadliest. The giant amalgamation of unique weirdness, Bonemass, is a force capable of swallowing up even the most experienced of adventurers.

Don’t worry about that, though. We’ve got everything you need to know about summoning this “gigantic blob of bones” and then beat him to a pulp.

Summoning Valheim’s Third Boss

To summon Bonemass, just like with the first two bosses in Valheim, you will need to access a specific altar.

This time, the altar you need can be found located in the Swamp biome. You can reveal the altar’s specific location by visiting and exploring the Sunken Crypts dungeon, also located in the swamps.

After locating it, you will need to gather 10x Withered bones. You can get the material by harvesting Scrap Piles in the Sunken Crypts, so this shouldn’t be an issue.

Remember that to get the material, you will need the Pickaxe skill, and that to open the door to the crypt, you need to beat the game’s second boss first. 

How to Beat It 

First of all, let’s dissect the bosses abilities and how to deal with them:

  • He can make use of a wide range of sweep, which can be dodged or parried by the player with the right timing. 
  • He can also make use of a wide range of attacks, on which he throws a drop of himself close to the player and summons enemies to his aid. 
  • He will also make use of an AoE, in with he spans poisonous AoE around himself, damaging anyone under its range and poisoning the player even if he posses poison resistance. 

Be Aware of Your Surroundings and Keep it Frosty 

To beat him, we recommend the use of Frost arrows to counter his regeneration and deal heavy damage. Make sure to also bring iron weapons for heavy damage and a lot of Poison resistance mead for obvious reasons.

  • Keep in mind that the boos battle is located in the swamp, which means that you need to be careful of your surroundings unless you want a few more uninvited guests to take part in.

Valheim was released on February 2, 2021. The game is currently available for PC, via Steam Early Access, with means it’s still not a finished product and it’s gathering community feedback to finally release the full game.
