Bungie is hiring for a new multiplayer action game

Bungie expansion

Before Destiny, Bungie was well renowned for the Halo series and other less-known games, such as Marathon and Oni. Ever since it broke free of the burden of making Halo forever for Microsoft, Destiny has become the focus of the company.

Now, if you scour my history here at The Click, you’ll see that I write about Destiny pretty often, and that’s because I play the game almost every day. You could make the logical leap that I really like the game, which yeah, is true. However, after about seven years of Destiny, I wouldn’t mind seeing something different from the famed developer.

Well, it looks like mine and other’s wishes may come true, as Bungie is hiring for something different than Destiny.

A different destiny?

Bungie's current multiplayer outing, Destiny. Bungie has hired for this before, so what could they be working on now?
Crucible is fun (most of the time) but what would a purely multiplayer game look like?

According to PC Gamer, Bungie has recently posted a job listing for a Contract Incubation Sandbox Designer. For normal people that only play video games and don’t make them, you might be wondering what that title means.

Well, essentially it’s someone that will help develop new gameplay mechanics, specifically for a new “multiplayer action game.”

So it seems like Bungie is planning on dipping its toes back into the multiplayer scene with something brand new. This news is pretty exciting because as previously mentioned, Halo was Bungie’s main game for many years.

Halo was known for being a space epic that changed the landscape of gaming, not only as a single-player game but also as a competitive multiplayer experience.

A new MLG Pro scene?

If you’ve never seen competitive Halo gameplay, I implore you to go to YouTube and take a look. Back in the day, moments like this were the FPS crowd’s Moment 37 every time a pro got to the main stage in a Halo championship.

Bungie really knew what they were doing back then, and you can see some of that magic still present in some parts of Destiny.

My hope is that Bungie hiring new blood will lead to something really special, because while I like Destiny and will probably always play it, I’d love for Bungie to just do something different.

A change of pace might do wonders for them as only working on Destiny for the past almost decade has probably left many in the company wanting something new.

Here’s to hoping we get the next best multiplayer thing from the guys that make space guns feel real good to shoot.
