Deltarune Chapter 2 announced for release

It has been three years since Deltarune arrived out of the blue on PCs everywhere, and now is finally receiving its follow-up, Deltarune Chapter 2. The previous game that creator Toby Fox made, Undertale, was a smash hit when it graced the PC audience with its charm and spin on its JRPG influences. Sometime later in 2018, creator Toby Fox dropped the first chapter of Deltarune for free and it made waves all over the internet.

It took the mechanics of the original Undertale and expanded upon them in different ways; you were still generally doing the same things you did in Undertale, but Deltarune asks you to pay more attention to battles whether you’re actively fighting enemies or not. It made for more engaging gameplay and encouraged you to be risky when you dodge enemy projectiles as it would grant you more of your resource (TP) that you could use to perform special moves.

The first chapter was short and left everyone wanting for more once they hit the end; since its release, Toby Fox and his small team have been hard at work at the upcoming second chapter.

Return to the Dark World

At the end of the Undertale 6th Anniversary stream, Toby Fox announced the release of Deltarune Chapter 2 to be on September 17th at 8 pm EST. We get a short teaser trailer where the characters Kris and Susie jump through a door presumably back to the “Dark World,” the other major location in Deltarune. Since 2018, Toby Fox has shared progress on the next chapter sporadically but assured fans that the next chapter was well underway.

Deltarune in my opinion is a great evolution of Undertale‘s gameplay and mechanics; the thematic stuff like sparing enemies and playing as a pacifist have been fleshed out more but the extent of their effects remain to be seen. Hopefully, Deltarune Chapter 2 gives us a deeper insight as to where the game will eventually end up and is in of itself, just as entertaining as Chapter 1 was. Without a doubt, the music will kick ass as it always does, as Toby Fox really knows what tracks to use for specific scenes. Fingers crossed for a smooth launch.

Deltarune Chapter 2 will be available on PC and Mac on September 17th, 8 pm EST.
