Fall Guys, the hit battle royale game with a twist from Mediatonic, was recently acquired by Epic Games. This acquisition brought the news that the game would be coming to more systems than just PC via Steam and PlayStation. However, it was announced that Fall Guys ports for Xbox and Nintendo Switch were delayed.

This delay is a pretty big bummer because players have been itching to play the game on consoles they own. Personally, I own a Mac and an Xbox One so I currently can’t play Fall Guys so even more players that only own a single platform have even less options or chances to play Fall Guys.

When Mediatonic was acquired by Epic Games, it instantly started to look like we were going to get Fall Guys on various other platforms due to Epic Games strong stance on cross-play and cross-progression.

On February 18th, during a Nintendo Direct event Fall Guys was announced for the Nintendo Switch in Summer 2021. Later that same day Xbox Wire announced that Fall Guys would be coming to Xbox as well, also slated for Summer 2021.

Then on March 2nd Epic Games announced that they had acquired Fall Guys’ studio Madiatonic, not only raising hope that the ports would definitely get done but maybe Epic would get them available faster.

Since Epic Games is commonly paired with free-to-play games like Fortnite, and the also recently acquired Rocket League, is was also stated with this acquisition that Fall Guys was not going to be free-to-play.

I’m not entirely thrilled with this news as it has a huge following as well as an in-game shop and forms of currency that can be purchased with real money so the flow of money is definitely there but I understand the reinforcement of wanting players to purchase the game.

This does not turn me away from the game, as I am excited to get my hands on Fall Guys for Xbox and think it is worth the purchase.

Now, unfortunately, it looks like were going to have to wait a bit longer for it to reach newer platforms. Mediatonic announced that the ports for these games has been delayed but due to this delay the team behind Fall Guys are going to be adding cross-play so that when the game is available players will be able to play with their friends on whatever platform upon launch.

Cross-play apparently isn’t the only feature that the team is working on, as they mentioned Epic Games offers them several tools that they’re using to implement even more features.
