Chad Stahelski, director of the John Wick movies and the upcoming TV series Gangsters of Shanghai, has been hired by Sony Pictures and PlayStation Productions to direct a movie adaptation of Ghost of Tsushima.

The producers on behalf of 87Eleven will be Stahelski, Alex Young, and Jason Spitz, along with Qizilbash and Carter Swan who will represent PlayStation Productions. The developers of the game, Sucker Punch Productions, will serve as Executive Producers, with Peter Kang overseeing the project on behalf of the studio.

Ghost of Tsushima recently crossed the incredible milestone of having sold over 6.5 million copies worldwide since its release in July 2020. The game has done fantastically well, and also served to boost tourism and interest in Tsushima Island itself.

Recently, game director Nate Fox and creative director Jason Connell were made permanent tourism ambassadors of the city of Tsushima in Nagasaki.

The mayor of Tsushima, Hiroki Hitakatsu, explained that it was the first time someone was awarded the title by spreading the name and history of Tsushima through their works.

With Ghost of Tsushima being adapted for the big screen, it has become the second film that will come as a result of the partnership between Sony Pictures and PlayStation Productions, following the Uncharted movie that is currently in post-production and slated to launch on February 11th, 2022
