Mario Party Superstars Brings Back Classics

Mario Party Superstars

In the midst of a relatively underwhelming E3 overall, a surprise announcement by Nintendo left Mario Party fans super excited for a new title. Mario Party Superstars was announced for Nintendo Switch with a fairly close release date of October 29th, 2021.

The new title seems to be a sort of grab back remake of all the best Mario Party has to offer throughout the franchise, featuring boards from the N64 titles and 100 minigames. I’m not as familiar with the series as I’d like to be, but I do know of the general preference for the N64 and Gamecube titles among fans. Mario Party Superstars looks to be in the Super Mario Party engine and merely remade what they saw as the best collection of minigames through the years. I know I noticed quite a few from the first two Mario Party games, such as the colored toadstool one.

Another great announcement was that of online play for all game modes! Seems like we finally have an answer as to why Super Mario Party suddenly got a free update for online play, but this just may be the answer. Seeing as the games look to run on the same engine, it seems likely they finished online for Superstars and then rolled it back to Super Mario Party.

Additionally, the ability to save online games mid match will be in the game, a welcome addition for sure. Being able to play all these nostalgic Mario Party games online with a fresh coat of paint is super exciting, and I know I’ll personally be grabbing it for sure. After all, the only way to do so until now was more dubiously legal ways, so let’s all get to partying!
