NEO: The World Ends With You is out right now

NEO: The World Ends With You is finally released. The long awaited sequel for the classic Square Enix JRPG title is now available for the public exactly 14 years after the first game’s release.

The first game was released for Nintendo DS in 2007 and had two ports: The World Ends With You – Solo Remix –, released on 2012 for Android and iOS devices, and a more recent one called The World Ends With You – Final Remix –, exclusive for Nintendo Switch and including a new segment called “Extra Day”, released on 2018. An anime based on the game also aired during this year.

The new game follows the story of Rindo Kanade, a boy who finds himself trapped in the Reaper’s Game, following the same fashion of the first game. The official synopsis is the following:

It was just another seemingly ordinary day in Shibuya-but not for Rindo. He could tell something about the city felt different.

He soon finds himself caught in the telekinetic crossfire of a psychic battle unfolding in the Scramble Crossing. And before he can catch his breath, a girl with an ominous aura appears before him and welcomes him to the so-called “Reapers’ Game.”

With some trepidation, Rindo and his friend Fret play along, convincing themselves that a “Game” couldn’t have any serious consequences. It isn’t long, however, until they start having second thoughts.

Rindo’s instinct was right: something about this Shibuya is different.

The original hack’n slash combat style is back, using the Pins you can collect around the city as your skills. By combining their effects, you can create many different combos with your party members.

Just like the previous title, NEO: The World Ends With You has an unique aesthetic, both in visuals, music and gameplay. You can see a lot of personality in these designs, and they complement perfectly the storytelling this game brings. It is also a sequel to the first game’s Extra Day ending.
