After a fairly quiet few months from the Overwatch team, fans can finally look forward to more Overwatch 2 content being revealed shortly.

On Thursday it was announced that new content including hero reworks for Bastion and Sombra would be shown off during the Overwatch League Grand Finals on September 25th.

Bastion and Sombra Reworks

Overwatch 2 is set to change the way Overwatch’s PvP mode is played for years to come. And with the changes to gameplay, some heroes are in need of a rework to be able to keep up with the newer heroes.

Blizzard has decided that Sombra and Bastion should be two of the heroes that deserve a refresh. A decision that will make sense to many fans of the game.

Sombra’s signature trait is her ability to hack enemies through her manual hack and her EMP ultimate. When hacked enemies enter a state of soft crowd control where they are unable to use any abilities other than their primary and secondary fire.

In the past few years, crowd control has become a prominent complaint from the Overwatch fanbase. Because of this, Blizzard appears to be making a design decision to limit crowd control heading into Overwatch 2.

Bastion is a bit of a different story. The kindhearted Omnic’s reliance on remaining stationary to deal large amounts of damage has left the community split on whether the character is overpowered or underpowered.

It appears that Blizzard has decided that the best plan moving forward is to remove the discussion entirely and change the way that Bastion will be played in Overwatch 2.

During the Grand Finals reveal Bastion will also have his new look for Overwatch 2 shown off. With the updates in technology since the game’s release in 2016, Blizzard has used Overwatch 2 as an opportunity to give many heroes a visual update.

Back in May, Overwatch fans were given their first taste of Overwatch 2 PvP gameplay during a live stream that pitted the dev team against one other.

However, many fans felt that the skill level of the dev team failed to give a good idea of how Overwatch 2’s PvP will play out given the massive changes to the game such as the move from 6v6 to 5v5.

It appears that Blizzard has listened to the complaints and will be giving the pro players of the Overwatch League a chance to try out the game.

According to the VP of the Overwatch League Jon Spector, the showcase match will feature players who were in Hawaii for the Overwatch League playoffs but had been knocked out of the tournament. Spector says the decision is to ensure that additional stress is not put on the players competing in the Grand Finals.

Many Overwatch fans have been waiting patiently for the release of Overwatch 2 ever since the official announcement at Blizzcon in 2019.

Although no official date has been announced yet, hope has begun to build after it was announced that the 2022 season of the Overwatch League will be played on an early build of Overwatch 2.
