PlayStation fans are finally going to start being able to play their favorite games on PlayStation Now in 1080p resolution! What does this mean for the future of PlayStation Now?

PlayStation Now 1080p

According to a tweet from the official PlayStation Twitter account, “PlayStation Now will begin rolling out support for streaming 1080p capable games this week. The rollout will occur over the next several weeks across Europe, US, Canada, and Japan, where PlayStation Now is available.”

This is great news for fans of the PlayStation Now service as streaming on the service was previously capped at 720p.

The update more than likely comes as a response to Microsoft testing 1080p support for Xbox Cloud Gaming (formerly known as xCloud), as well as Amazon Luna being able to hit 1080p and Google Stadia even hitting up to 4k streaming resolutions.

It’s a bit late, but I’m sure that PS Now users will take late over never.

While it is nice to finally see support for 1080p streaming on PlayStation Now, that doesn’t stop people from wanting more from PlayStation, as you can see below:

Sony still has yet to allow players access to play PS1-PS3 games on PSN, which is a true shame, because there is a full market of games that people want to play, but are unable to, simply because Sony refuses to acknowledge it.

Hopefully we get some more updates for PlayStation Now (maybe 1440p or even 4k soon?), as well as some much needed features found on the Xbox Series X|S that are currently missing from the PS5. Unfortunately, Sony hasn’t yet stated which games can actually take advantage of this 1080p support, though based on the tweet, I would imagine that Marvel’s Avengers, Borderlands 3, and The Long Dark, are some titles that do support it.
