Resident Evil fans have a new date to make in their calendar as Capcom announce a new RE Showcase, which will give us a look at Resident Evil 8 gameplay for the first time, as well as more news about the Resident Evil franchise.
Resident Evil 8
The next game in the Resident Evil series will be Resident Evil 8, or Resident Evil Village as it is officially named. It will be the sequel to 2017s Resident Evil 7, and will be the second game in the first person horror trilogy.
Continuing on from the previous game, players will once again take control of Ethan and it will feature Ethan’s girlfriend, Mia, from the previous game, as well as series staple Chris Redfield.
RE Showcase
Capcom have announced that a new RE Showcase will be coming, giving us the first look at RE8’s gameplay, as well as more news on the story and what to expect when the game launches. Hopefully we will also find out the official release date for RE8 too.
Start Date and Time
RE Showcase will take place on Thursday January 21st at 2pm PST/10pm GMT. The event will be hosted by Brittney Brombacher, host of the What Good Games podcast.
New Trailer
The RE Showcase will feature a brand new trailer for Resident Evil 8, giving players more details and a greater look at new characters and villains.
But for now check out the RE8 reveal trailer from last year.
Gameplay
The RE Showcase will give us a first look at the gameplay and any new mechanics that may be in the game. We do know that it’ll be first person like RE7, and will likely play very similar to it too.
Release Date
No official release date has been given for Resident Evil 8 yet, however we do predict that it will be in April 2021.
Resident Evil 7 and Resident Evil 2 Remake both launched in January, and Resident Evil 3 Remake launched in April, so it seems that Capcom are now favouring the earlier part of the year to release the games, instead of competing for sales during the holiday season.
Platforms
Resident Evil 8 will launch on PC via Steam, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S. A last gen port was planned for the PS4/Xbox One, but this was cancelled due to hardware limitations and the sacrifices that would have to be made.
