When does Deathloop come out? What is it even about?

Arkane Studios’ Deathloop is almost here and we have everything you need to know about one of the most hotly anticipated titles of the next few months. From what we’ve seen so far, Deathloop looks like it could be one of the best games of the year – so far, anyway. Here’s the latest…

When does Deathloop come out?

Deathloop is due to release on PC and PS5 – as a timed console exclusive – on September 14th. We don’t actually have a release date for an Xbox version of the title just yet, but we can’t imagine it’s going to drop anytime soon. The Medium, for example, has only just been released for PlayStation 5 and that was released on Xbox Series X in January!

We can imagine Deathloop is going to spend a similar amount of time as a PlayStation-only console game before making the jump to Microsoft’s platform. Eurogamer has even gone as far as to report that this isn’t going to be available on Xbox consoles until at least September 2022!

Deathloop is available on Amazon from the following links:

If you pre-order Arkane Studios’ newest game, you’ll be able to get a new outfit for Colt and an additional Trinket at launch – think of these like Perks for your assassin.

What even is Deathloop, anyway?

Deathloop is a game about “death” and “loops” – not to give too much away.

In Deathloop, you play as Colt – an assassin stuck in a time loop. Colt is tasked with taking out eight targets on Blackreef – an island hosting an infinitely-long time loop party. If you leave one target alive or die while trying to eliminate any of them, the time loop resets and you have to start again. Basically, it is all about learning patterns and exploring options to find the best way to take on a complex series of puzzles. However, there is a catch…

There’s an optional multiplayer mode – however – that allows players to play as Julianna, a rival assassin tasked with protecting the time loop and bringing Colt down. You can toggle this, so don’t worry if you’re not ready to be hunted while you’re doing the hunting, but it should make every run of Deathloop different. While playing as Julianna, you can disrupt Colt’s targets and mimic other characters in-game to cause chaos for whoever is playing as Colt. This game has a lot of potential to be a lot of fun if you’re ready to tackle Blackreef with the optional multiplayer enabled.

Arkane Studios’ Deathloop also bears striking similarities to Dishonored and Prey – gameplay-wise at least – as Colt will have a number of gadgets and powers at his disposal alongside any weapons he might be using. In addition to this, Deathloop is going to make the most of the PS5’s unique DualSense features. We know there’s still a lot of ways the Haptic Feedback and Adaptive Triggers can be used and we look forward to seeing what Arkane Studios is doing with them through this next-gen release.
