Sinister Six: Who Could be the Final Member in No Way Home?

Spider-Man Villains

In their trailer, Sony and Marvel Studios teased five villains set to return from the previous Spider-Man movies. With No Way Home, they are clearly forming a multiversal Sinister Six, but with the trailer only hinting at five of the six members, they left it to us to speculate on who that final member could be.

Known scooper DanielRPK confirmed on Twitter that a sixth villain does indeed show up in the film, but did not reveal who that villain could be. Here are my possible theories.

Rhino

In my opinion, Rhino seems to be the most likely to be the final member of the Sinister Six. He is the last villain left from the other Spider-Man films, excluding Venom who we’ll talk about in a bit.

The only downside to this theory is that I don’t know why Sony and Marvel would be hiding Rhino as the final member. He isn’t that major of a villain so his reveal wouldn’t be very surprising.

If it does turn out to be Paul Giamatti returning as Rhino, I only hope they get rid of the awful mech suit and find a way to give him a more traditional look from the comic books.

Mysterio

Mysterio from Spider-Man: Far From Home, a potential member of the Sinister Six.

Another very likely villain would be Mysterio. Since the character is known to mess with Spider-Man’s head, it wouldn’t be that much of a stretch to say that he faked his death at the end of Spider-Man: Far From Home to ruin Peter Parker’s life.

I would personally love to see Jake Gyllenhaal return as Mysterio and interact with the other villains in this movie and I would say it’s about as likely to happen as Rhino or either of the next two characters.

Scorpion

Mac Gargan from Spider-Man: Homecoming, a potential member of the Sinister Six.

Scorpion seems like another really likely character to take up that final spot in the Sinister Six. The character was introduced back in Spider-Man: Homecoming and we haven’t gotten any form of payout since then.

If a Scorpion reveal was coming in No Way Home, it would be the character’s first in-costume live-action portrayal so that would be worth saving until either the final trailer or the movie’s release.

The only downside of this would be that the film would have to take the time to show how Mac Gargan became the poisonous villain.

Vulture

Another character that could join the other villains would be Michael Keaton’s Vulture. The character was a fan-favorite in Homecoming so bringing him back would surely please people.

Keaton is already set to reprise the role in some capacity in Sony’s upcoming movie Morbius.

The downside to this is that by the end of Homecoming, it seemed that Peter Parker had gained the respect of Vulture since Vulture refused to give up Parker’s name to Gargan so him turning into a villain again seems unlikely.

Venom

Ever since Venom was released in 2018, fans have been dying to see Tom Hardy and Tom Holland’s characters meet on the big screen.

It seems incredibly likely to happen at some point, I just think that both franchises are so big that it deserves its own movie and that No Way Home would be too big of a movie to give that interaction enough attention.

That being said, it is still very much a possibility. With Sony and Marvel Studios leaning so heavily into the multiverse I would say that anything is possible.

Black Cat

Okay, hear me out on this one since these last two are going to be a bit of a stretch.

This shot is at the 0:55 mark of the No Way Home trailer and it shows Peter with Halloween decorations all around him. It seems like he gets the idea to go to Doctor Strange for help because of a decoration resembling the Sorcerer Supreme.

However, behind Peter are cut-out pictures of black cats. Black Cat is a very frequent villain and love interest for Spider-Man in the comics, so this could be a subtle hint at her incoming introduction to the MCU.

It would be an insanely clever way for Sony and Marvel to tease the last member of the Sinister Six in a trailer full of hints at the team members.

Realistically, I think this is very unlikely to happen in No Way Home, but after Jon Watts’ subtle hint at directing the next Fantastic Four movie in Far From Home, I’m not ruling it out as a possible tease for her appearance in a future Spider-Man movie.

Doctor Strange

Source: Marvel Entertainment

This is probably the most outlandish theory I could think of, but what if Doctor Strange isn’t who he seems to be. In the trailer starting at 2:14, Doctor Strange and Spider-Man seem to be fighting one another.

This, paired up with what some fans have pointed out as uncharacteristic behavior from Strange throughout the trailer, could lead to a reveal of Strange being another character.

Spider-Man: One More Day is the comic run that No Way Home is set to adapt, and in that series, Peter Parker ends up making a deal with Mephisto so that the world forgets that he’s Spider-Man. Could we end up seeing something like this in No Way Home?

Another possible theory is that Strange could actually be Mysterio in disguise which would be very in-character for the villain.

What If is also set to introduce an evil version of Doctor Strange in an upcoming episode, so the potential is there for Strange to end up being someone else in No Way Home.

Now, do I really think that this movie is going to end with Doctor Strange in some capacity joining the Sinister Six? I think a lot is possible with the multiverse in play, but no I don’t think we’ll see this in No Way Home. It would be an insane plot twist if they did somehow manage to pull it off.

Regardless, we’re bound to learn who the final member of the Sinister Six is, and probably a lot more surprises, when Spider-Man: No Way Home releases on December 17.
