Galarian Stunfisk is a regional spin on Pokemon Gen 5’s Stunfisk, but do you know what the weakness of this Ground/Steel-Type version is?

This shorthand guide is designed to help inform you of the weakness of Galarian Stunfisk to help prepare you for raid battles against it before it appears during Pokemon Go’s Ultra Unlock part 3 event.

What is the biggest weakness of Galarian Stunfisk in Pokemon Go?

Water-Types emerge the victor for this battle, with an advantage against half of Galarian Stunfisks possible attacks, on top of dealing Super-Effective damage. Fighting-Types land in a distant second place, with an advantage against only one attack type.

Fire-Types and Ground-Types can be used as a counter choice, but each has their own weakness that Galarian Stunfisk can use against them, making them a risky option at best.

How did we find the best counter to Galarian Stunfisk?

Despite its overall simplicity, the Pokemon series has a very logic-based depth to it, in that every Type has its own set of weaknesses and strengths.

This means that in a game like Pokemon Go, where you sometimes even know what Pokemon you’ll be fighting in advance – in content such as Raids – and with Pokemon having fewer potential moves they can use, you can often make a determination as to what Type will be the best counter option in battle before the battle even starts.

For example, if battling a Ground/Steel Type like Galarian Stunfisk, you have a few possible Types that it is known to have a weakness against in the Pokemon series. In Pokemon Go specifically, we can also see what moves it has, and determine which of these types it cannot fight back against.

Galarian Stunfisk Type Interactions in Pokemon Go

Resistances
  • Bug
  • Dragon
  • Fairy
  • Flying
  • Normal
  • Psychic
  • Steel
  • Electric
  • Rock
  • Poison

Well, this is quite the list of Types to avoid, isn’t it? If the sheer number wasn’t enough, Galarian Stunfisk even takes doubly reduced damage from Electric and Rock-Type attacks, and manages to resist Poison-Type attacks even more than that, taking only a mere 24% damage from them.

Weaknesses
  • Fighting
  • Fire
  • Ground
  • Water

Each of these Types is only a single tier of weakness, so they all deal the same damage at a rate of 160% of the usual damage they would do. So, as per usual, we’ll have to dive into Galarian Stunfisks moves in battle to see what makes the best counter option in Pokemon Go.

What moves can Galarian Stunfisk use in battle?

Fast Attacks
  • Metal Claw (Steel)
  • Mud Shot (Ground)
Charged Attacks
  • Earthquake (Ground)
  • Flash Cannon (Steel)
  • Muddy Water (Water)
  • Rock Slide (Rock)

Fighting-Types will hold an advantage against Rock slide, but that’s about it for them. Fire-Types will resist Steel attacks but suffer against all of Rock, Ground and Water, making them hugely risky for little payoff. Ground-Types can resist the Rock slide, but suffer against Muddy water.

Water-Types are the safest bet here by far, being resistant to both Steel-Type and Water-Type attacks, giving them an advantage against half of Stunfisks attacks.

Weakness and counters Summary

All in all, Water-Type Pokemon have the clear lead here, with an advantage against half of Galarian Stunfisks possible attacks in Pokemon Go, with Fighting-Type Pokemon landing in second place.

Fire-Type and Ground-Types can do well here, but both have significant weaknesses that Stunfisk can use against them, making them more of a risk than they’re worth compared to Water and Fighting-Types.
