Battlefield 6 is one of the most highly anticipated games going into 2021, being the first entry in the series to release on the next-gen consoles.
With rumours suggesting that it will include the largest maps in the series’ history, everyone is eager to see how DICE is using the newer, improved hardware available.
With both Battlefield V and Battlefront II having their in-house support cut to allow DICE to focus on development, Battlefield 6 promises to usher in a new era of large-scale, physics-based warfare. Here’s everything we know about the upcoming title.
Latest News – Could Be Set In The Desert
A recent Reddit post offers some interesting theories regarding the location of the next Battlefield title.
In a video, numbers were discovered and deciphered as coordinates, these ended up matching up to Kazahstan.
Check out the video below to see the numbers they’re referring to.
Could the next game be set in Kazahstan? Its possible, but if we had to put our money on it we’d say no, but we could be wrong.
EA Conference Call Reveals New Details
EA recently held their Q3 earnings conference call, a chance for the company to detail how they are performing to investors and stakeholders.
In the call they detailed plans for the upcoming Battlefield 6 including reveal and release windows, platforms and more.
Battlefield6XP on Twitter gave an overview of what was detailed in the call.
- Reveal coming Spring 2021
- Release set for Holiday 2021
- Return to full out military warfare
- Will take full advantage of PS5 and Xbox Series X
- More than players than ever
- Development progressing well
There was no mention of a PS4 and Xbox One version of the game, but with the next-gen system only being out for a year by the time this should release, we will likely see last-gen versions as the previous consoles won’t be completely phased out by that point.
Battlefield 6 Trailer
At the moment, there isn’t any official trailer for Battlefield 6. This, in part, is due to the fact that there is not an official announcement regarding the title. As soon as it is officially announced, we would expect a trailer alongside it.
Release Date
Although there is no specific release date for Battlefield 6, we do know that EA has indicated the launch may come in the fiscal year 2022 through an earnings report. This means it could launch anywhere between April 2021 and March 2022.
This coincides with comments from EA’s Chief Executive Officer that suggest they are launching Battlefield 6 in the “holiday season”. A November 2021 launch is the most likely based on previous trends.
Platforms
Without any official launch information, it is hard to predict which platforms Battlefield 6 will be on. It will most likely launch on almost all available platforms; Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, and PC.
Notable leaker _TomHenderson_ has suggested that Battlefield 6’s 128-player maps will be exclusive to next-generation consoles, however. The older consoles will be limited to 64-player lobbies in an effort to reduce strain on the hardware and keep performance at a consistent level. This leak appears to confirm both a current and next generation launch.
Pre-Order
Due to the lack of an official announcement, there is currently no official pre-order information for Battlefield 6.
Returning Features
The one thing everyone seems to agree on is the supposed leak that Battlefield 6 is returning to the modern era and tackling World War 3, similar to Battlefield 3. With that in mind, there are a few more rumours with legs regarding features returning to the series…
Destructible environments, vehicles, and classes all seem like a sure-fire claim given the fact that these are all so integral to what makes the Battlefield series so unique.
Redditor u/William_Fichtner has also reinforced Battlefield 6’s WW3 theme through his discussions on the details of two War Stories. The first War Stories campaign will follow a U.S. Army detachment fighting off Russian Forces in an American Suburb.
The second will feature an undercover MI6 Agent working to stop the Russian advance into Eastern Europe. These may still be rumours, however, they appear to coincide with the larger picture being painted.
In addition to this, it seems like Grand Operations are making a return to the series. These will now last 5 days and each battle will take place on a different day on a different map. The winning team from the previous day will also gain an advantage going forward; this includes additional reinforcements and/or vehicles.
CharlieIntel have suggested that Battlefield 6 will be a soft reboot of the franchise, but is this even possible given the disjointed nature of the series’ narrative?
That’s all we know about Battlefield 6 at the moment! Are you looking forward to the next game in the series?
